IMHO it is a decent intro to the war for the novice but I found it quite lacking in real substance and now regret my purchase, And yes it is cover to cover wargaming porn.
Author of Day of Battle, I game in 25mm and 40mm scales. Also enjoy Horse and Musket and WWII Western Front Games.
