Hi everyone! This is a Sherman I have just finished a few days ago. This will go in my little collection of vehicules from Bolt Action game. I wasn’t sure if I added too much rust to the tracks. What do you think?

I think it looks fantastic!  You’re probably right that perhaps there’s a bit too much rust, but unless you look closely, it looks like lots of mud to me.  And you can never have too much mud on tank tracks!

Ok next time, I will try to add lots of mud instead of rust 😉

Very nicely done StuG. Nice weathering. Keep up the great work.

    Cheers and good gaming.

Tracks on vehicles in use tend to not get rusty apart from a bit of surface oxidation, since the constant movement and maintenance prevents it developing. If anything, there’d be a metallic sheen on the ‘V’ which was constantly abraded by the road surface. That said, a lot of track was made of manganese steel, which was a brownish colour anyway. So the colour works anyway, even if for a different reason! Dust and mud hide a lot too.

Some Shermans & other US armour had rubber block tracks, which were naturally gray & didn’t rust anyway. That doesn’t apply to the tracks on your model though.

A very nicely painted model, looks like a WW2 tank.  I dry brush very light earth colour over my WW2 tank tracks , body.   This helps highlight the vehicles dirt traps.

Looks very Shermany — I can’t make out the rear deck, is this an M4 or and M4A3?

I agree with Tony S that the tracks look mud-encrusted, and it is practically impossible to overdo the mud and crud that accumulates on AFV running gear.

What has happened to the gunshield, though?

    All the best,

    John.

    I am not a specialist so I can’t tell if it’s a M4 or a M4A3.

What do you mean about the gunshield?

The easiest way to tell them apart is the engine deck.

    The gunshield is missing.

    All the best,

    John.
