A long time ago, I bought (and ran a game of) GDW’s Space 1889 rpg. I really liked the background and setting for the game, but – IMO – the rules themselves were pants.
Moving forward a few years, I had the same experience with Wessex Games’ Aeronef – the figures were great, but the rules were far too simplistic for my tastes.
Last year, IIRC, I got Horizon Wars and I really liked the innovative rules system in that, and had a few idle thoughts that I could use my Aeronef mini’s with those rules. I’ve just re-read Horizon Wars and am more inspired to try them out. Going to the author’s website download page there is now a document ‘Weird Horizons’ that has rules for ‘Airships’ – i.e. Aeronefs …
So, the point of this post is – has anyone tried Horizon Wars for Aeronef? is anyone interested in it?

Did you play Sky Galleons of Mars or just the Space 1889 RPG? I really like Sky Galleons and have been contemplating working up stats for my Aeronefs. I just wish I had some Martian screw galleys and kites in the same scale.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I’ve been searching for some rules for years, but not found anything that has what I want the closest I’ve found is Majestic Games’ Iron Stars, which I’ve long wanted to try, but haven’t for some reason …

I have the reprint of the collected volume of Sky Galleons/Cloudships and Gunboats, but it does not come with the plastic ships which is a shame. I just had a look on BGG and noticed someone had a copy for sale for 35 Euro. I wonder what shipping from Germany would be like, and whether my wife would tell me off too much for buying it.
I’d be interested to hear how Iron Stars plays, if you ever get around to trying it out. I’ve contemplated buying Iron Stars a few times, but have never quite got round to it.
Good luck with your search.
