Sabresquadron Has Gone To Print!

After some hard work we are happy to announce that the rules are finished and with the printer.

Following its release last summer, the introductory version – Rapid Deployment - has attracted favourable reviews and feedback. The full version builds on this, improving the basic system and adding all the elements required to provide a comprehensive but easily playable representation of modern warfare, including air support, drones, helicopters, engineering, and electronic warfare.

The rules will be published in hardback with original artwork and its 144 pages will include game set-ups, comprehensive terrain rules including urban warfare, background information and scenario ideas.

Copies will be available from the second week of September. News on ordering will follow soon.

We are pleased to announce the release of Sabresquadron Rapid Deployment, free introductory rules for company level actions from the Cold War to the Digital Age. Rapid Deployment enables the player to experience the ideas and mechanisms of the Sabresquadron modern rules system prior to the release of the full rules, planned for early next year.

Sabresquadron is a new venture aiming to provide easily playable rules for modern warfare. The rules will cover the period from the start of the Cold War up to the present day, and will also be good for the very near future. The emphasis is on 5 major factors:

Speed – Speed of manoeuvre, speed of communications and speed of decision-making.
Lethality – If it can be seen it can be killed, but being seen doesn’t mean it has to be hit.
Technology – Minor advantages can be significant, but one shouldn’t get bogged down with details.
People – Training and leadership are vital if any weapons are to be used effectively.
Position – Defenders will fire first but a static defence can be found and destroyed.

We are adopting streamlined mechanisms, using only one type of die with consistent scores to achieve success and an optimum set of modifiers. The result is that, with a little playing experience, players will rarely need to consult the Quick Reference Sheet let alone the main rules.
