I really want to add an Egyptian cavalry unit of some type to my Mahdist wargame forces.
In 1/72, there’s not much available. I have, with some difficulty acquired this set: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1879
Gendarmes in blue? Near enough to regular cavalry? Some type of Bashi Bazoouk?
It’s also difficult to find any uniform information. I have seen wargames’ figures of Egyptian cavalry in white (though with the regulation jacket rather than the zouave-style one) but with inexplicable mid blue trousers. Where does this come from??
Any advice is welcome.

I might have to raid my El Cid collection!
And some Orion Basmachi for a tad more modern look of irregular types…….

Some are definitely unusable. Many shape up surprisingly well with a decent paint job. The exaggerated sculpting holds washes well & make highlighting quite easy.
Their latest efforts are very good eg:

….none of this helps me much with Egyptian cavalry though.

Thanks for your help & interest.
