That’s a nice idea 🙂

http://steelcitywargaming.wordpress.com/02/08/2023 at 19:19 #189136Mr. AverageParticipantMy goal is a set of LI forces that’ll all fit in an old ammo can I have, including terrain.
02/08/2023 at 19:51 #189137Jim WebsterParticipantNow that is good objective 🙂

03/08/2023 at 22:56 #189177Andrew BeasleyParticipantRelease date has slipped:
While we had initially hoped to release Legions Imperialis in August, the release date will now be a little later in the year. Don’t worry – you’ll be commanding a tiny legion of troops to victory very soon.
Explains why a local 3rd party had had zero news about dates or boxes last week.
The above link shows the contents of an expansion box by the way.
(Wonder if this is now the ‘big October release’ the YouTube rumours talk about.)
11/09/2023 at 21:41 #190525Andrew BeasleyParticipantNot seen any news about the new date and GW are just showing the range of figures / tanks with. the odd teaser on rules.
I did get a neat Epic scale terrain video pop up though:
Nice to see the old figures mixed with some 3rd party ones here.
12/09/2023 at 09:45 #190528Jim WebsterParticipantNice find 🙂

13/11/2023 at 19:40 #192527Andrew BeasleyParticipantMade it to sale https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/11/12/sunday-preview-war-on-an-epic-scale-in-the-age-of-darkness/
Two week preorder from the18th with release on the 2nd Dec.
Original pics of box contents wrong:
The original image for this product erroneously contained four Kratos Heavy Tanks. These are in fact sold separately, and are not contained in this box.
Now ‘only’ 223 / 61 minis in the box (grouping of infantry onto one base cuts the miniature number down).
I still hunger after it but the table size is bigger than I have so it’s wait to see the play-throughs and slide to a birthday gift if it fits I think. May ask Santa if I’ve been good enough for the rules (doubt it) and maybe some infantry to replace the Ogre ones (that are oversized anyway).
13/11/2023 at 19:48 #192528MikeKeymaster13/11/2023 at 19:52 #192529Jim WebsterParticipantI remember they produced a lot smaller rule book for the old Epic stuff. Wonder if there are any of them about second hand and a lot cheaper?
Are you after the rules for the back ground, or just for rules?
Jim

13/11/2023 at 20:54 #192530Steven FrancisParticipantThere are a few epic groups on facebook which host most of the different versions of the rules. I need to sit down and work though second edition to make the arm cards to cover both unit composition and rules so that is more efficient. The new edition toes second and adds reactions generly but has not ported the blast markers which were the best part of 3rd (my favourite version) which I think is a missed opportunity but hard to say without the full rules.
13/11/2023 at 21:26 #192532Albert of WinterpigParticipantsortof, the New epic are massive compared to the old, and look to be 12mm sized vehicles, with 9mm infantry.
It looks like they took all the good bits out of the original and binned them.
14/11/2023 at 07:43 #192536Jim WebsterParticipantIt looks like they took all the good bits out of the original and binned them.
From what friends of mine who follow GW and their rules, it does seem to be a common habit. At regular intervals they do introduce stuff into rule sets which is really good, but then it gets watered down and degraded 🙁
The problem is that the business model seems to demand new rules (plus a new codex for every army to fit with the new rules) every three or four years 🙁
https://jimssfnovelsandwargamerules.wordpress.com/
14/11/2023 at 09:02 #192537Albert of WinterpigParticipantYes, it has long been known that retention s not really their strategy, so a constant churn of new.
And because they laughably design competition rules/codex, and then constantly nerfing the bad best armies and promoting slow sellers by rules tweaks. Rather than fixing a universal rule and codex (like say other competative games do).
15/11/2023 at 00:53 #192558Tony SParticipantI remember they produced a lot smaller rule book for the old Epic stuff. Wonder if there are any of them about second hand and a lot cheaper? Are you after the rules for the back ground, or just for rules? Jim
If I remember correctly, GW – or Fanatic, to be precise – were offering the entire Epic: Armageddon rulebook as a free download. If you hunt around, I’m sure there are some copies here and there online.
15/11/2023 at 08:28 #192565Albert of WinterpigParticipantI prefer NetEpic, but each to their own.
16/11/2023 at 00:03 #192593Andrew BeasleyParticipant16/11/2023 at 04:26 #192596LogainParticipantLots of fond memories of 2nd edition epic. Still a favorite. I doubt I’d buy into either of the new games – so much good 6mm out there already from small companies. But having two new systems with complete support from bigger companies has to be a major plus for small scale sci-fi fans everywhere. Great news all around.
16/11/2023 at 10:38 #192598Jim WebsterParticipantAnd a Mantic version launches soon – 12mm
<iframe class=”wp-embedded-content” title=”“WARPATH: Kickstarter Announcement” — Mantic Games” src=”https://www.manticgames.com/news/warpath-kickstarter-announcement/embed/#?secret=aokD2Si9i7#?secret=GdM05x0GCc” width=”500″ height=”272″ frameborder=”0″ marginwidth=”0″ marginheight=”0″ scrolling=”no” sandbox=”allow-scripts” data-secret=”GdM05x0GCc”></iframe>
And I love the way they slipped in the line, “Reduce the scale for WARPATH, and we’d be on to something extremely epic”
I suspect you will struggle to copyright the word ‘epic’ 🙂

16/11/2023 at 21:38 #192621LogainParticipantAnd it looks like Pendraken is hitting production with their new 10mm sci-fi lines soon: https://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,22738.0.html
Three new 10mm sci-fi lines all coming out at the same time… hopefully it will create a lot of new interest in the smaller scales!
18/11/2023 at 15:57 #192682Andrew BeasleyParticipantEarly release boxes hitting the ‘influencers’ (uggh – hate that term)
https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-legions-imperialis/review
18/11/2023 at 20:12 #192687Andrew BeasleyParticipantManaged to get on the GW site at last:
- Main box £120 but pre-orders are temporarily out of stock
- Rules come up 404 (not found) from the community link but are £37.50 here on the GW site.
- Cards £19 per set but sold out already
- Infantry / tanks £30 a box
- Building gone but £45 and £100
- Knights £22 and up
Current link to the range is https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/legions-imperialis-lp (who knows how long that’s going to be valid in the new layout).
18/11/2023 at 20:15 #192688Jim WebsterParticipantLooking at some close ups of the figures from here
I must admit that I was not impressed with them.
Indeed I’m not sure they stand comparison with somebody like Pendraken

19/11/2023 at 19:49 #192695LogainParticipantI actually think the new designs are good, but they also aren’t a huge improvement over the old ones. Building the tanks and dreadnought etc with all of those tiny plastic options doesn’t seem all that appealing to me. It would be interesting to see side by side comparisons with Vanguard infantry and tanks…which are huge for 6mm.
Glad to see that it had an enthusiastic launch.20/11/2023 at 20:50 #192732Darkest Star GamesParticipantThe figures obey the “6ft rule” though I am not impressed by the large amounts of infill they went with (like at the bolter magazines and the like). Likewise It looks like the dreadnaughts could have been fewer pieces. The tanks look amazing though, really well detailed but again probably could have been fewer parts.
Interesting that they’re 1/4 the size of the 28/32mm sized dudes. Interesting choice, but makes it easier to 3d model for sure. Not a whole lot of dynamism in the poses, but I guess that’s ok for this size.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
21/11/2023 at 09:16 #192736Albert of WinterpigParticipantMultipart infantry in this scale is bad, the box losing about 1/3rd of its original planned contents but them not rewriting the info in the box is bad. It just feels rushed or an afterthought.
As I said earlier, not my scale I have shedloads of real Epic, Vanguard and oand GZG stuff, and ebay is my friend when I want more.
23/11/2023 at 17:20 #192815Andrew BeasleyParticipantModiphius launching Full Spectrum Dominance – STLs are a bit smaller (8mm to top of a humans head) but the game can be played in a 2×3 feet table. Reads as its physical rules only and use any figures (3mm – 15mm+) going by the press release with The Lazy Forger offering 3D print bundles with the rules and buildings…
Love the sample buildings – fragile beyond belief I think and STL only is a turn off.
Not impressed by the first build / paint post on The Wagamer – the infantry paint job is very poor.
Tempted to try to get a few tanks just for a diorama…
23/11/2023 at 18:31 #192817Albert of WinterpigParticipantWill have a look at the rules. The tanks look good but are huge compared to the old ones, might go well with dropfreet commander stuff though.
10part 1/200’ish kit is, not on.

Frankly it verges on silly. I suspect it automatically rules them out for people of my level of dexterity

Coming soon from a GW store near you – micro manipulators for only £35 (any resemblance to tweezers is shear coincidence)
🙂
18/01/2024 at 12:54 #194298Andrew BeasleyParticipantMantic are releasing the first pictures (I think) of their buildings:
Not the greatest for clues but their blog (here) gives:
Our superhuman Enforcers come in at roughly 12mm, whereas an average human would be closer to 10mm.
These are shown here in a previous blog entry.
Nice to see they have avoided the gothic look – wonder if they will scale nicely with Pendrakens new range? Saying that – I’m never too fussed about buildings vs figures for large battles.
18/01/2024 at 15:08 #194302Darkest Star GamesParticipantI find it slightly hilarious that all of the sudden there is a competitive rush into a “new” scale for GW and Mantic, which will hopefully benefit the smaller makers that have been in this scale for a while now. I know that the Big Guys think they are breaking new ground here, but I can’t wait to see how cross compatible everything ends up.

18/01/2024 at 17:03 #194304Konstantinos TravlosParticipantMy own personal experience is that the figures are a bit smaller and less detailed than 10mm pendraken stuff. Tanks and walkers are rudicously detailed.

I wonder if they’ll discover they have even more competition in this scale? At which point will they press on or just sulk and abandon their ranges

20/01/2024 at 14:39 #194368Andrew BeasleyParticipant… At which point will they press on or just sulk and abandon their ranges
As soon as cost or required cash flow outweighs profit and they think the ‘noise’ on social media will not impact other product sales.
Traditionally, GW are famous for dropping projects (rivalling Google IMO) that are not ‘core’ so I would normally expect them to be first out of the game. That would give others the chance to continue (and gain new customers if the figures are similar enough) BUT 3D printing changes things – look-a-like are more readily available than before and it could be a source of high cost / short run production even by GW.
Another way to look at it is assuming they are all using metal moulds press life should be long enough to attract another round of customers so it could come down to the manufacturing / storage cost and capital cash flow vs profit.
20/01/2024 at 15:27 #194374Jim WebsterParticipantI remember being told by somebody high up in GW at the time that they had tried a 15mm range. But once they’d made moulds, done the costings of casting it up etc (back when it would be in metal) they couldn’t make it pay, perhaps because they feared it might cost them 28mm sales) so the whole lot was melted down again and the moulds junked

07/02/2024 at 19:03 #195074Andrew BeasleyParticipantFirst Mantic play through now up (90mins though):
Even the logo reminds me of the GW look 🙁Problem with all of these is I’m tempted to replace the blocks with piles of little figures (despite Ogre due in months)…
07/02/2024 at 19:30 #195077ian pillayParticipantSo our LI box arrived yesterday. After all the reviews on line the miniatures are pretty good to be fair. The boy has gone for blood angles and they paint up really nicely with speed paints. I will get some photos up on the blog soon.
I watched the Mantic video for warpath , it looks pretty good. Agreed you can’t but help to see the GW logo inspiration…🤔

The armour I’ve seen look super – worth collecting for a diorama or to display. Infantry have mixed reviews (mainly the arms / weapons) but it seems a fiddly fix can be done to sort this.
Did you know Boyes in Brigg (next to the main car park) has https://thecolourforge.com sprays in stock? No idea how long they have been here but about 1/4 of the space is empty – they seem to have replaced the Humbrol cans and though £11.50 they have at least 3x the £7.50 cans they used to stock. The wool shop in the market have a basic selection of GW paints but they were decimated before Christmas when I went in.
