Cheers buddy! I can promise you that the money shot will be a Christmas present for all those patient enough to have stuck with me this long! That’s deadline I am working towards anyway!  I think my 6×4 table should be big enough, only just though…

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the video, it was the first of the Malaya campaign ones I did, and you can tell by the state of the maps I drew!

Cheers Noel, it is very nice indeed. The rules are packed with information and a really nice read. The figures look a thousand times better than the previous Warlord JD range. Something to look forward to (and I’m not getting paid by Warlord to say that!)

Tony, I did see those decals, but didn’t put two and two together! They are perfect for Gaslands.

Thanks guys, Tony, yes it’s a sheet of thin plasticard. I think my mate found it in a Railway modellers shop, but you’ll easily get it on ebay or elsewhere. I have other sheets of embossed tiles, bricks, etc, this one looks like metal grilles, so suited perfectly! and, yes, you’re right the vision slit is on the wrong side. Maybe the driver just likes the RAF?

Cheers Tony. Yep, there was definitely a moment of doubt before I began, but I shouldn’t have worried. This one was stripped and primed, but I have some other cars which I will be painting the Typhus over the original paint, just to see what happens.

Cheers DSG. TBH, I think it will really depend on the scale you are using. With 1/35th i think it will work perfectly fine, but 15mm and smaller, you may not get the desired effect. I tried it out on small areas of some of my other cars and it wasn’t massively obvious. That said, it is a really good paint to use for rust and I’d definitely recommend giving it a punt.

Cheers Tony. The idea for an urban encounter came from the pictures in the rules, TBH. I’m not sure I would recommend having the table as packed as I did, we barely got above gear three at any point!

Thanks, the other three cars were painted by Dean and they look excellent imo

I’m sure you could design cars in Gaslands, it would just need a bit of jiggery-pokery, there’s a reasonable amount of design with weapons and extras anyway.

Cheers Ruarigh, it was indeed a very fun game! I used to play Car Wars as well, but I can’t remember for the life of me how it was played, but I know we always enjoyed it. Gaslands is a great pick up and play game, but I need to work out the best way to lay out terrain!

Cheers Norm, I try to get the full table as well as close ups. Sometimes it’s quite difficult as people are stood around playing and I don’t want to interrupt their fun! I’m glad you thought it was enough time on each table.

If you think you need them, can’t you just transport the rules you want over from Car Wars? I’m guessing Gaslands probably missed a lot of rules out due to a lack of space as dictated by the Osprey publications rules on page length. It would be easy enough to track a particular car’s wins and kills. One way could be to give them XP points at the end of a game, to be traded in for being able to roll more skid dice, bonuses for firing, other skills, etc. That would give you more reason to try to survive an encounter as part of a campaign.

I will be putting mesh in some future cars (when I find out where to buy it…), but I also like the option of adding a driver in a windowless car as well.

Cheers guys, I am glad you liked the video!

I really like the North Star items, they are very nicely sculpted and in scale with the cars. I also have the Ramshackle bits, my next cars will be sporting some of his gunners and passengers. They are cartoony, but they have some great ideas, especially the guys tied to a pole!

That tutorial looks pretty good to me and I might try it out myself on another vehicle, just to see how it goes. Thanks for sharing!

I also used to play Car Wars back in the day, along with Dark Future, so Gaslands is a good nostalgia trip for me!

    Cheers Rhoderic!

Painting them as they are is one way of doing it, certainly. But, I would attempt to drill out the plugs though and I’ll tell you why…

The cars are far easier to strip an prep for repainting because you can just dip the metal parts in the stripper without worrying about ruining the plastic base and wheels.

The act of drilling the nub is pretty simple, use a vice or grip to hold the car in place. Then I used a 5mm drill bit and just applied firm pressure to the centre of the nub with the drill. Use a car you don’t mind damaging to practise on and you’ll get a feel of how much you need to push down with the drill. All you need to do it shave off the top mushroom part of the thread, so it’s a relatively small amount of metal. I used a power drill (Black and Decker style), but I also did my first one with a Dremel, this just took a little longer and wasn’t as powerful. It’s just a case of practise and not worrying about screwing up the first time. AND DON’T FORGET TO MAKE SURE TO GRIP THE CAR TIGHT!!!

Yeah, that sentence wasn’t a criticism of them. I cut my wargaming teeth on A5 booklets and wouldn’t change a thing. I like looking through copies of old rules I used to own when I see them for sale at wargaming shows (I should never have sold them in the first place…). I guess the opposite is also true, eye candy is good, as long as the rules are good as well!

Absolutely,  it was like watching paint dry, this seems much faster. I play a lot of Wings of Glory which has a similar movement mechanic and that is very fast.

Dark Future was a sluggish game, this seems to be a trimmed down and elegant version.

I’ve not played it yet, obvs, but it seems to be a fast game, as it should be. Basically you choose a manoeuvre template and that’s the measuring done. You have to use the one you first touch as well! Theres hazards that build up if you do too many crazy moves which could wipe out a vehicle. Firing is a case of rolling the weapons attack dice with the defender rolling armour dice to negate hits. There seems to be a lot of nuances in the movement, but I think a couple of games will help it to make sense. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Cheers DSG, it’s a really good game. The price tag is pretty high, but the production levels are worth every penny. I like the computer driven GM as well, it took a little while to get used to, but on the second game it was second nature. Don’t expect to win though…

The AH card game is excellent and one of my favourites. I play it solo a lot and have not had a bad experience with it yet.
