Cheers guys, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, the game is very quick once you get to grips with the basic rules, they are very intuitive.

I still think he nicked my ‘STEEL’ moniker, though…… 😉

Almost tempting! They are very good and the low cost of putting together some armies is well worth the investment I think!

Good to see you back here Alex- where’ve you been! I’ve been on Twitter and Facebook mostly! I’ve kind of neglected forums of late, my bad.

Busy on YouTube by the look of it. Yep, keeping the content flowing

I like 2mm and like big battles with them. Why am I hesitating? You know you want to…

Not sure – there is (I know you hate me already for this but…) the grid factor. I know, I know but it’s there. (And 1.42 is still bigger than 1 so why the sudden sprint ability diagonally?) Ignore it, it’s an abstraction, the unit is IN the grid, but exactly WHERE doesn’t matter. To move obliquely they may have started in the top corner of the other grid and ended in the bottom corner of the grid they moved into. It confers no advantage to either side as both have the ability to move obliquely.

I await your play through with interest. Keep your eyes peeled…

Twitter, by contrast, is a screaming poisonous den of Internet hysteria, doubly fuelled by its recommendation algorithm which shunts people into echo Chambers.

A lot of people level this accusation at Twitter, but wargaming Twitter is a very friendly welcoming and encouraging place. All it requires is to follow a number of the more recognised ‘names’ in the hobby (the Too Fat Lardies chaps, for example) and then follow those that follow them or interact with them and you’ll find yourself amongst plenty of like minded people. Anything that you don’t like, simply block the account or mute certain words or hashtags. It takes a little effort, but Twitter, for me, has been by far the most rewarding place to hang out from a social media hobby perspective. If that makes it an echo chamber, than I’m happy to have my words bouncing around in there.

Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed it. Yep, attendance was far lower than when I first went in 2019, but we are still in the middle of a pandemic and people were required to show covid vaccine certification or proof of a negative test, which I assume put some people off, along with people being more cautious at the moment in general.

The training pamphlet SS143 specifically trains the platoon in attacking a destroying a dug n MG post, as German defence tactics had changed to strong points by 1917. So platoon power was enough to knock out this kind of strongpoint. It was my fault, not the tactics of the time. Also, smoke grenades weren’t a thing in the FWW, smoke was laid down by mortars or artillery or canister. Needing a lot of preparation and was usually reserved for large scale actions, not this typical small scale stuff. Also, not every position had wire protection, especially if it was hastily dug. Wire took a long time to lay out and had to be done under cover of dark, so in this case the Germans are in a freshly prepared position. You only roll to see if a Big Man is hit when there is a  kill on the unit, so the more kills the more likely he is to have been hit.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah, I usually use Superglue, because I find Blu-tac not strong enough, as you said, with a small contact point. It’s fine for individual figures but anything bigger, I find the model just falls off. As you don’t see the bottom of the tank, leaving behind some superglue residue is no problem at all and it is brittle so snaps off easily.

Cheers, glad you enjoyed the video. WaT is a great fun game, just don’t expect it to be a simulation. That said the tank combat can easily be applied to any other set of rules you have, IMO, I’m thinking of doing it with IABSM.

Add to that they were poorly trained, and equipped, the defences were not in a great state and the attack came it just before dawn. In the real life battle the Japanese were not held up in the slightest.

Cheers chaps, glad you enjoyed the video and I’m glad you are going to check more out, General Slade.

John, as for the bayonet charge, I think I forgot to remove the two dice for assaulting a trench or fortifications, which is quite a significant reduction when you are rolling six dice. But I also gave the Japanese a +1d6 in close combat due to their fanatical nature during the Malaya campaign, so it was slightly balanced out. Also, IIRC (I recorded this game a few months ago now…) there was firing and previous attacks on the positions before the ones I showed in this shortened version of the game. The Japanese never got to fire their naval batteries though.

Thank you Tony, Very much appreciated and I am glad you enjoyed the video. I’ll let you into a little bit of movie magic secret: LWTV asked me a while ago to make a video, they also approached a few other wargaming Youtubers and we’ve had a few months to prepare! They wanted to have a clutch of videos to show what they meant by the QS format.

O Group is an excellent set of rules and well worth checking out. As for the camera, I use a Panasonic HC-V180 which I’ve had for a while, so this was a slight cheat with the QS challenge. I’ve also just recently upgraded to a Lumix G7, so in the next couple of months my videos should improve in picture quality at least…

Yep, this was done through Discord, the Virtual Lard discord to be exact. Basically, we were given two days of planning prior to the game, then it began at 1300 on the Sunday, we were given the general sitrep at that time and then sent out orders on our own individual channels, except I was in Alt-Goldberg with one other player so we were able to communicate easily. The other commander was racing off south and the last I heard from him was a message at 0740. The umpires did all the moving on the maps and discussing the details whilst we waited for them to drop a message into our channels and then react to them. The game was wrapped by 1830, just to give everyone chance for food and stuff. We could update our maps, but I never bothered. The ones in the video were the ones used by the umpires who shared them with us at the debrief that we had after the game.

I think the only problem was sitting around waiting for a message form the umpire, but as I was in the position of not doing a great deal, not much was coming my way. However, I could have made better use of my time, so I only have myself to blame. But yeah, I could have set the discord to give me a notification when a new message came in rather than sit waiting for it. Which is what I would do next time.

Cheers, I am glad you enjoyed the video. I am surprised that it took me this long to play a KS, I guess it was just no chance previously. It really gives you a completely different view on tabletop gaming and an appreciation of the smaller actions that are part of military operations. Looking forward to my next one!

Cheers, yeah it’s a bit of a minefield when starting out and can be quite intimidating. Especially when all the videos I’ve seen have been by people who know exactly what they are doing so they miss out the absolute starter stuff. I saw one recently where someone was doing it for the first time, but they were with someone who knew how to use one, so it was a slight cheat as they would have had instructions from off camera, we all don’t have that luxury…

Cheers, I am glad you found them useful. Yeah, there is a lot more manoeuvre, and the action switches about, depending on where you are issuing orders and where things are hotting up. I think the Panther being better is due to the more abstracted rules for firing with tanks. In CoC there are quite a few outcomes which can lead to a tank being KOed, like jamming the wheels/turrets, crew suffering shock, etc. As these are representing multiple tanks, the firing effect is less granular, so they are either shocked, damaged or KOed. In hindsight, I should have used smoke to get three of the Shermans behind the Panther and then would have had a better chance at brewing it up. Lessons learned…
