Cossacks should always come in hordes, and your are definitely horde size.

in reply to: It only took me a year. #105047

    Thanks guys.

The flags are from the producers of the figures, Warfare.

They now have Swedish, Saxon, and Russian GNW, French and Anti French for the NYW and war in Ireland, some a few TYW flags.
And just recently Prussian and Dano-Norwegian infantry and cavalry flags for GNW and WSS.

They come for 28mm standard but can be resized to any scale you want.

    A very enjoyable AAR!

    in reply to: Oberg/Chevallerie #102648

A wonderful display of beautifully painted 18th century, infantry, cavalry and artillery. Thank you for sharing.

Thank, I’m working on some French cavalry now. And soon 2 battalions of french infantry. Followed by french artillery.

After that the British 12th foot.

The quality of your work on show there just wants to make me weep …… This is ‘Art’ ! – beautiful, …. and those flags! loving all the individual touches, too – the differing colours of facial hair, etc…..

Thanks you for the very high praise.

The flags are maverick models cloth flags.

    I always do different hair/facial hair colours(even when I did 6mm)

It’s usually just dark brown and blond. With higher incidence of blond when doing Scandinavian or other places with lots of blond  hair.

I sometimes add light brown, redish brown or even proper red hair.

Thanks, Truls, that’s reassuring. My interest is actually in the WSS in this scale, with the goal of a couple of small armies assembled mostly from the Ebor brigade deals (great deals,BTW!) — but it’s good to know there are fill-ins available if necessary, that won’t look out of place. Your GNW project is really coming along! I’ve been following it with interest. Mine is in 1/72 plastics — still collecting boxes.

Thanks, I’ve just added it up and total my GNW forces are now 449, (plus a few half painted units)

This is the biggest project I’ve done since my fist 15mm Napolonic project, that ended up with about 600 figures.

I still have a little over 150 left to paint, and I’ve just ordered 12 more cavalry and 1 more battalion, meaning I have at least 185 more to paint when they arrive.

    Thanks OB

in reply to: Swedish Livregimentet. #98539

Lovely figures. Also, why does the SYW always look so classy? donald

Thanks, as Hafen said, these are GNW, the last war swddeb was worth it’s salts.

in reply to: Swedish Livregimentet. #98538

Yes, GNW, yes warfare miniatures. 😉

I know of people mixing Ebor Swedes and warfare Swedes in the same unit.

I personally woiødwou mix in a single ubit but in the same army is no problems. I hava single Swedish battalion from musketeer miniatures (before it was sold to a different company) and it fits better in than I thought it would (and musketeer miniatures are just as chunky as Ebor.)

And I have ebor Danish infantry, while my Danish cavalry is warfare.

And i’m  planning on adding Warfare danes as my second battlions to those I already have so each ebor battalion with be paired with a Warfare.

The new Russian/ swedish horses, are more compact so they actually fit closer to the Ebor horses than the older models.

    in reply to: Grenaderkorpset. #98384

    Thanks,

The flags are Warfare miniatures too.

in reply to: Best 15mm Swedish for the GNW #98095

Very nice! Those two Swedish battalions are worth at least 8 Russian battalions.

in reply to: Queen's Regiment and 132 Warfare cavalry #93589

    Thanks.

in reply to: Russian 3pdr #92532

Thanks, yes the warfare miniatures are quite nicely proportioned.

They look tiny and skinny next to front rank.

in reply to: Russian 3pdr #92387

    Nope 28mm metal.

in reply to: GNW Swedish Pike to Musket Ratio #92295

    look

Warfare miniature.  You can simply send a mail and they can resize them for you (  I know people have had them done in both 15 mm and 10mm)

in reply to: GNW Swedish Pike to Musket Ratio #92292

When it doubt, too few pikes is better than too many.

In a pinch 3 pikes on the central command base will do.

This unit was made for random leftovers. So I used unhistroic grenaiders in mitre, and only 3 pikes.

While this is my standard configuration

While this is an experimental thing, were I’ll try and model the formations used at Fraustad(6 rank formation with all the pikes spread out along the front in the 3rd rank)

in reply to: GNW Swedish Pike to Musket Ratio #92274

As said above,  1:3 was the norm.  So was having them in the center. (Though several other doctrines existed)

The use of grenadiers varied for the regional regiments each company had a few grenadiers.  So they were spread out.  In the enlisted regiments (like the guards and those raised outside of Sweden and Finland)  had separate grenadier company.  But as also pointed out.  It doesn’t look like they used their mitre.

Making a pike and shot formation with just 18 figures is really hard.

Either you have to have a bigger number of soldiers (say 3 pike,  drummer,  2 standard bearers and an officer) in the central base. (So 7)

And I then side bases with 6 musketeers each)

    This means 19 figures.

But will be far from 1:3 pike ratio.

I personally have 5 pikemen,  12 muskeers, 1 sergeant,  1 drummer,  1 officer and two standard bearers. For a total of 22.

Don’t know if they match Dixon, but Legio Heroica makes fantastic 15mm.

    Truly EPIC!

in reply to: First tank(ever) #88747

    I’m sure there’s a rivet or two out of place…..just kidding. It’s a winner.

Dunno how many rivets you expect in a welded and cast tank, but the paint job is certainly a beauty. Mr. Picky is a bit worried that the unusual kit-retention flanges on the rear deck and the Crusader-pattern rear turret stowage box mean it pretty much must belong to 3 CLY in Sicily, in which case blotchy cam and red-and-white stripes would be appropriate. Does anyone have any photographic evidence of other regiments using these rear-deck flanges? Or 3 CLY using this plain scheme? Jemima Fawr, I’m looking at you. All the best, John.

The tank is probably quite anachronistic.

Having very little knowledge about the billion different sherman variations.  I bought this one for my market garden project. It’s called “the British Sherman” so a assumed it would be used by the British.

Little did i know guards armored division had only Sherman V and Vc and mabye a tiny number of Ic.

So I just followed the instructions knowing this would only be a practice tank. I’m guessing all my tanks. Will be practice tanks until I can afford an airbrush.

Great looking game, and yes that quaint early war stuff is fun.

Let’s make a tank but only have MGs on it.

The fact Germany went from shooting rather inoffensive 37mm rounds to giant 88mm in just a few years is the definition of:

    “Well that escalated quickly”

    Thanks Rob

I’m sure there’s a rivet or two out of place…..just kidding. It’s a winner. donald

Luckily the kit did not force me to glue every rivet or actually weld the tank…

The kit was easier to put together then i thought.

in reply to: First tank(ever) #88170

Yes — though I was expecting something from 1914 or so! What manufacturer?

The Tank is Rubicon,  the paint and effects are ammo.

in reply to: First tank(ever) #88164

    Thanks people.

Nice model… A new thing for you, moving away from Black Powder type eras?

I’ve stopped by WW2 before?  But this is my first attempt at vehicles.

Not moving away from Black powder,  this is just a side activity. I’m unsure how far I’ll delve into it.

Right now it’s just fun doing something I’ve never done before.

    Exellent stuff!

in reply to: Prinz von Preußen #85529

I didn’t even know Maverick had cloth flags. Is that a special order? I don’t see the option when looking at their web page, but then I have been know to miss stuff.

It’s the last option in the drop-down menu were you choose size etc, it’s called “material”

in reply to: Prinz von Preußen #85512

Good job! Hey,Truls — I believe I remember you saying “elsewhere” that you thought your painting wouldn’t stand close scrutiny. Wrong!

Oh, these are still far from close ups. Trust me if I’d taken real close ups ( like only zooming in on 2-4 of then) they’d look but ugly.

in reply to: Prinz von Preußen #85511

    Indeed, why cloth flags?

I like cloth flags,  find them much easier to fix into wavey shape than paper.

in reply to: A blacksmiths tale NSFW #85281

No doesn’t track scar(which would have been real cool. But it does show damage to armor and clothing that has to be fixed.

    Henry looking good

    Fighting with my visor down.

Here I am Mercy killing a mortally wounded enemy with my war hammer, with the sword the mercy kill looks effective, one big stab into the chest.

However the “mercy” killing with the Warhammer consist of hitting the guy about a dozen times with the hammer.

in reply to: A blacksmiths tale NSFW #84967

I got hit in the head

This is what I look like now.

in reply to: A blacksmiths tale NSFW #84585

I played a total of 7 hours today, I was in a total of 4 fights.

I got attacked by two “bandits” they had an axe and a stick, the first one dropped to his knes as soon as I drew my sword the second one only needed a light tap on his arm before he to droppped. I spared them, they looked like desperate farmers.

The second fight was a lot harder, I died like 10 times, before I got him.

The 3rd fight to was hard, I’d spent like 40 minutes trying to find these two bandits, I was sure I was going to loose when one of the died from blood loss and I bearly managed to kill off the second one.

The last fight was a Cuman, he didn’t stand a chance.

So yeah 4 hours 4 fights 4 dead enemies.

in reply to: A blacksmiths tale NSFW #84526

Yes,  it shows sketches,  painting, explains some of the designs decisions. Also tells some of the history of the villages and castles (all real places)

    Very nice art in it.

in reply to: A blacksmiths tale NSFW #84511

Got my Collectors edition by DHL yesterday, only played a few hours not out of the prologue yet.

Yes there are bug and performance issues(so far I’ve only seen performance issues)
The game isn’t combat heavy, in my 3 hours I’ve so far fought 4 guys proper(plus beaten up a drunk guy that owed my father money, and that quest you can do without beating up) It’s far slower than most games.

in reply to: A blacksmiths tale NSFW #84117

The armor system is far more complex than in WOTR game.

You have 13 armor slots,(giving 4 layers of armor on the body)  with the ability to have padded armor with mail over it and then plate over the mail and padding, each type of armor gives various bonuses, like padding works great against blunt, only partially against cuts and almost not at all against stabs. while mail works great against cuts not at all against blunt and partially against stabs.
