Do they have to be painted?  I have an incredible figure, but I want to keep it in bare metal as a keepsake…

    Interesting thoughts.

In case you’re wanting an overview of MaK/SF3D vehicles, check out the units here: http://futchfactor.com/resources/sf3dgaming/

There is also a limited time line.

Also, here are the 2 versions of the old board game from the 80’s, which includes and extensive (if somewhat confusing) bunch of scenarios to play:

    http://www.biased.info/pdf/MaK-SF3D_Game_Manual_v2.1.pdf

There are 3 anti-grav piloted craft in the list: The Firefly (prototype, not the ducted fan craft based on an Allouette), the Falk and Falk II.

Flying craft include: MERC Tornado hovercycle, Fledermouse, AFS Chakai, Moby Dick, Scout Flyer (not piloted AFAIR) and AFS Banshee.  SDR has Firefly, PKA Hornisse (2 versions), Salamander (my fav!) , and Hummel.

It just dawned on me that you draw the C6 comic!  Been reading it and really really want to know more about what goes down with V!  Dern it!

That DOES look really good! I’ve been twiddling with Vietnam in 3mm (I like lots of dinky helos doing their thing!) but can’t drop below 6mm for sci-fi, just too much invested.

That said, what’re the make of the minis?

    @Mr Average

No problem sir!  The 3d prints should arrive early this week.  After I clean them up they should be to the caster by weekend and then it’s only a matter of however long it takes for them to be molded and cast.  Lets say 3 weeks or so from arrival of masters?  I’ll be sure to post here and on the 15mm scifi FB group.

Oh my!  Gepards sound worth the points!  How do they fare when receiving fire though?

A buddy is trying really hard to get me into TY.  I recently bought the game AirLand Battle for my computer, so baby steps…

Wow, niiiiice!  I especially like the hanging lanterns, that is an incredibly cool touch that lends a heck of a lot of detail very effectively.  It sort of cracks me up a little that the town is so orderly, but it also makes a heck of a lot of sense.

I also really like that circular vat with the mixer.  That’ll look really cool when you’re done.  What about some sort of drying pond?  The sort of thing no one wants to fall into, or hide in…?  Could be part of the sewage treatment, or maybe an alga farm.

I do support the idea of a junkyard, maybe not as part of the town itself (though it would be a good place to build a town next to).  Maybe derelict spaceships or old colonial equipment?  Build it in tiles like you have the town, can be a place where scavengers occasionally tussle, insurgents hide to scavenge materials from to use vs The Man, and where the occasional bonkers hermit girl makes her home (waiting for her family to come back for her from the stars, of course!)

Oh, and if you want some excellent reference photos of the Dollhouse and Sandstalker, check out: http://hexamodel.com/

The models are all based off of Kow Yokoyama’s original models.

    Heya Mr. Average,

The DSG Vents are very close to the same size as the Eureka Vents, so should go well.  I’d say since the SDR troops are from mostly off planet (as are most of the MaK/SF3D troops) size variation might be a good thing.

As for tanks, the research I have done says that most of the vehicles were pretty small, so the Tyranus might be huge for a Ravin.  The Dollhouse is based on the SDR Pz182 (and the Merc Y-15 tank which is just a redesignation for stolen/captured units) but is “newer” technology than the Ravin and Seduce, so maybe”newer” equals smaller in this case (the truth behind the Dollhosue model is that KY used a 1/35 T-64 to make a 1/20 model, and had to widen the hull to make it work.  The side skirts are actually the original deck of the T-64 with the half-circle being the turret ring!).  If you want to do some “one-stop shopping” I will be releasing the Federation Python/Cobra in 15mm very soon (you can see the 6mm versions at http://www.darkeststargames.com/6mm-dark-star-sci-fi-range–federation.html ) and you could easily utilize those.  There will also be an AAA and rocket launcher versions released at the same time.  I mention this because you could put the rocket launchers on the sides of the extra turrets for the Rimmers (after shaving off the guns on the left side of the turret) and have a stand-in Dollhouse…

    Great input guys, thank you.

I use recovery and engineering vehicles in some of my games, especially Vietnam, where it was not uncommon to try to recover a damaged tank under fire (whether the firefight started before or after the recovery started!), as well as in modern OIF and Afghan games.  I personally think they’re great for skirmish gaming, and probably more appropriate being on table over things like arty, air support, or higher command elements.  I’ll keep going with them as catalog depth always helps!  (eventually, hopefully!)

I am pulled in multiple directions, but mostly favor “hard” sci-fi. I like big mechs, like Gundam and Robotech/Macross, and played a ton of Battletech back in the day. BUT, most of the time I see big stompy robots are easy targets when on land, especially in any setting where there are lasers. Same goes for anything that flies, if there are lasers. But I love them. I love small mechs even more, like Heavy Gear and VOTOMs and LandMates, they just make so much more sense to me. Of course, the whole problem with any sort of mech like that is that the pilot would go splat if it was hit by a 120mm tank gun…

So, the genre and the tech level for whatever setting I am playing in makes a difference. I am very fond of Traveller, and though many of it’s technologies are somewhat antiquated in our current view, it’s still a pretty solid setting, hard sci-fi, and what I usually aim for. But I do love me some Space Opera (which was why I started the “Colony 15” line), also being a child of the 70’s and 80’s, so hand me a sword and blaster and we’ll be off!

Really cool!  If you ever have trouble thinking of a layout, there was an old PC game called “Breach 3”, and part of the game is boarding actions.  Lots of ship designs, and not a bad game to boot!

Sounds like a good haul! What mark are the L2s? I am tempted by the L1s they are putting out (some sort of nostalgia nagging at me, probably ahs to do with Transformers… lol!) How do teh plastic models look?

I don’t envy you having to move all of that equipment, let alone the stock!  I helped a buddy with his vulcanizer (though not used for minis) and it took 2 engine hoists to get that thing up and going.  He was only moving everything 2 doors down (to a bigger warehouse) but it was still a total pain!  Hope you don’t break anything, let alone breaking yourself!

    Terrifyingly awesome!  I love them!

Cost you 20?  Was it random sprues that someone had as lefovers, or intentional purchases?
