Darkest Star GamesParticipant
I think you go with what the intent is. If the intent is for them to cause fear when they fly over and fear can only ne caused by a charge then it should count as a charge even if not explicitly written. Many rule assume that if something like “fear is caused on a charge” or some such is written somewhere then it applies everywhere you see a unit causing fear.

Darkest Star GamesParticipantPretty shnazy. I had wondered if you were going to overlap the walls onto the Inn base. Quite effective. (But what, no dung in the yard? Must be a fancy place! Lol)
And just what is “the next”?
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantModern is a term that is relative to which point of history you are speaking of. What was modern in 1874 is not the same as what was modern in 1918 or 2024…
That said, if WW2 is the time point we are using as the reference point, then perhaps the Algerian war or the Suez Crisis? (some of the stuff in Nicaragua in the early 1900s could have qualified, at least in tactics)
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThat doesn’t help! But also the objectives are often totally different in a post 1950’s conflict. Things shifted from owning and controlling territory absolutely to much looser control and the want to stamp out the enemy fighting forces until until they stopped or would come to the table to a collective agreement. Add to that that the political unrest and new weapons and vehicles and they are totally different conflict types from earlier wars.
Not a lot of people like a game where the objective is to destroy the enemy but also not let your guys get hurt in the process or you lose even if you “win”… (not to mention those kind of situations do not lend themselves well to the tournament game type mindset)
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI don’t know if using WW2 rules for later 20thC battles is as much a rules thing as a mindset thing (both the players and real life force commanders). Most ww2 rules are aimed at larger battles with a couple of companies, usually in an attack/defense type game with a jump off point and pre arranged barrages, etc but that doesn’t really work for conflicts like Algeria or Vietnam. Those conflicts didn’t really have these set piece battle lines, generally used smaller sized units of maneuver and attack, but also were backed by a public that was casualty avers. Big battles with lots of blood and guts spilled for a little gain were not popular and that shaped doctrine, not to mention the lethality of more modern weaponry and explosives. That makes me play a game differently than I would a WW2 game (where I admit I am more tolerant of taking casualties than I would in a Vietnam game)
That all said, as people put above, for me WW2 ruled would only really apply to WW2 like conflicts, so ya Korea for sure, maybe Indochina (there are special cases there, with the riverine actions and some of the raiding that most WW2 rules don’t cover).

Darkest Star GamesParticipantBummer on the loss. I have yet to look at the rules but do wonder how it plays compared to previous “editions”. Also reminds me that at some point I need to retry playing Dropzone Commander.
So your tanks were takin out in close assault by weak troops?
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI’m with you. I don’t play tournies so I have no issue using my old 1st and 2nd edition figures to keep playing the new rules (if I were) or more likely whatever other game I like. I’ve watched friends sell of whole armies so they can buy the latest greatest version for tournies. One dude is on his 4th (!!!!) Iron Warriors army iteration just so he can “stay current”. Bonkers!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThey look great.
I hope they’re effective, otherwise the more “gently worn” clothed troops will start to call them “pretty boys” (comparatively!)
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThis is a great looking building. You make it all look so easy! The clarity of your filming is great, I really appreciate how much work you put into these videos.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantWorks for me. I just love beaky helmets, mostly for the nostalgia but also because they are so much less cliche than all of the other “horrific” type helms that predominate 40k. (even the short nosed SM helms that the other figures in your squad have that quasi-skull look to them, just boooooring… YMMV of course!)

Darkest Star GamesParticipantHistorically the dragoons were ineffectual — but neat to have a mounted uniformed unit like that in the Islands
They probably didn’t bang their coconuts together loud enough to sound like a larger more threatening force. 😀
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThat looks like it was a great game. Bummer that some of the Spanish side was firing at their own guys, I guess that’s what happens in the fog of war. I’m mildly surprised at the loses of the British gunners and ineffective grenadiers, and thought the Spanish flanking and the horse would have done a bit more. Still, a believable outcome, and that’s pretty cool.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThey really look good, Dave. Cracking job!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantNow we will expect rules for sus hunting each other, with thermo and haloclines, active and passive sonar and all of that good stuff. Get cracking, Jim! 😀
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantNice! Looks a lot like the red laterite of Vietnam. I believe you can even get that specific color from MiG, I know I have the powder at home and use it on occasion and it is good stuff.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantYa, that’s pretty good! I like that it’s recognizable without being a generic round tube.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantNice job! And making another army available for people to use will surely pay dividends.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThat looks really good. I think it will even be of use with other scales if you want.

I might have to look into these rules for an imginations game that a friend is planning. He’s been trying to decide what rules to use (his old standby was Game Of Admirals but it is a bit too cumbersome for more modern gamers).
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI agree totally with how good the mirrors look. Maybe a little gloss on the glass part?
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantComing along nicely!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI’ll count up how many I have, maybe I can share with you both! I ship to the UK all of the time, it can be expensive but the boxes get there.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI have a couple of the old beetle type titans (from the 1989 bog box) I can send you if you want them. They’re unpainted. I doubt I will ever need them for anything and it’d be good for them to get used after so long.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI see, I thought you had tied it in to the south and east of Drebkau on the West and Central Stirland map, SE of The Moot (only because of the rivers course and the mountains being right there, and that stretch of water being called Aver).
Now I wonder how much of an area a vampire army could actually control and administrate (not just conquer)…
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantYou think that’s amazing, wait till you see the scale accurate spiders and webs in his barn! 😉
So the area you’re playing in is SE of Drebkau? What program did you use to make your area map, it looks great!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantAs Andrew said, gorgeous!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantGood show on your part to win despite the hero disparity! Though break on the the well fall though (hopefully not permanent break!).
If these buildings end up close to the finish of your others then they’ll be very nice indeed.

"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThere are some really good looking minis there, and the game sounds intriguing. I like being able to chose what unit you want to show up as the blind/ping, that can make life interesting for your opponent real quick! (and allows you to modify any plan on the fly)

Darkest Star GamesParticipant“The Sludge Encrusted Eyeball”
It must cast ‘eye boogers of dooooom’ spell. 😀
This does sound pretty interesting. I like games where you use “normal” base troops as opposed to every troop being some uber special mega personality, and just spice them up slightly. Thank you for peeking my curiosity!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantyou bring the armies and rules and I will play.
I have often been the victim of my friends getting me all pumped up about a game and once I layout the cash for the rules and an army they drop out or have skipped it for the next shiny thing. Lesson learned. So, nowadays if I like something I buy both sides and MAKE them play, mwuahahahhaaaaaa!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI like the idea of a very red base, with dark-to-medium grey ash on top, sifting down and filling in the cracks. Your light colored Marines would really pop.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantYou’re trucking along quite nicely on this project, Andrew. It excites me to see people making progress, helps to motivate me to do the same. Keep it up!
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThat close combat looked like rats swarming! I have such fond memories of the old Space Marine/Adeptus Titanicus/Epic games that I am trying very hard not to get sucked into this one. I get that it’s 30k, so new models, but also a new scale. Reeeeeally tempting.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantto the one dude whose arm fell off and he is carrying…
Nicely done! Love that sort of humor.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantI have bought 3 mats from War Sigil (US based, all of mine are 4’x6′) and am suuuuper pleased with them. Not cheap, but hand made, textured and flocked, etc and most have a couple of options to choose from as well as scales (such as the sea mats). I’m going to have him make an alien landscape with custom colors for me in a couple of months.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThose are some great looking figures, you’ve done an excellent job.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantAt 15mm I’m not sure you’d actually see the string, more like paint it on. I’ve used jute and toothpicks to make hooches for ‘Nam. I’ve seen both resin and metal wattle fencing panels out there, seems that’d get expensive quickly.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThat is a really good looking game. Man, those german FOs really messed up, they could have caused some chaos if the shells had arrived.
"I saw this in a cartoon once, but I'm pretty sure I can do it..."
Darkest Star GamesParticipantThat looks great! Very well done sir. The shields really add a lot.
