Triffid-like plants would be good
.
cmnashParticipantThanks for the pic 🙂
.
cmnashParticipantSneak Peak Gandowana WIP:
Oooh, they look very nice! Any idea of an ETA for them? and/or a pic with a 15mm figure?
.
cmnashParticipantI sent this email to the letters address of WI the same day I posted here:
Hi, I think that it’s bang out of order for your magazine to use a blogger’s pictures without their permission, or at the very least. notifying them of your intent to do so.
If you do not know what I’m referring to, then I direct you to this blog post ny ‘Just Jack’:
http://blackhawkhet.blogspot.com/2019/04/anybody-read-wargames-illustrated.htmlI do hope that you will apologise to Jack, if not in your magazine, then at least directly to him
To be honest, I expected better from your publication
Colin Nash
A very disappointed readerand got this reply this morning:
Hi Colin,
Thanks for bringing this situation to our attention. We’ve apologised publicly on the Blog and offered some compensation.
These type of things happen very rarely, but are, of course, unacceptable. We’ve reviewed the matter and dealt with it internally.
Regards,
Wayne

So to me it seems that WI has done the right thing – they made a mistook, have owned up to it, and offered amends – well done to them
.
cmnashParticipantBlimey Jim! I didn’t realise that you were that old … or perhaps it isn’t you?
.
cmnashParticipantyou have no idea how much time I spent googling 1900s tramp steamers.
I did try a bit of that, so can – to some extent! – ‘feel your pain’ as it were … I was amazed just how many of them were entirely painted in shades of grey though … although maybe, upon reflection, perhaps they were black and white photos?
.
cmnashParticipantThanks for sharing MattH – very inspiring! I like what you’ve done with your merchants – I’ve got some auxiliaries for my Russians, and your colour schemes may well get used on mine.
The effects on the last pic are really, really good!
.
cmnashParticipantHi Steve, Thanks for publicising your KS here – it’s right up my street and I’ve just backed it. If you hadn’t posted here I’d never have known about it!
.
cmnashParticipantcmnashParticipantMore great work fairoaks024 – keep ’em coming!
.
cmnashParticipantThey look great fairoaksO24! What rules do you use for your superhero skirmish?
.
cmnashParticipantFor me, I got Osprey’s Lost Expedition, a Rapier Miniatures t-shirt and Peter Pig’s PBI & PBI Company Architect book.
Added bonus, just about to go & collect my Brigade Models order from the post office – large bunch of 6mm sf mini’s.
.
cmnashParticipantI had a similar thought, but in 3mm!
If I didn’t already have a bunch of 6mm (& bought some more in Brigade’s christmas sale) I would’ve gone for 3mm too
Very interesting; I am looking for an entry into sci-fi. Looks great value for £2. Can you compare it Alien Squad Leader?
Although I’ve got Alien Squad Leader, I’ve not read it and as it’s now in a box somewhere (as I’m about to move), I can’t – sorry.
.
cmnashParticipantI’ve put polyfilla straight onto MDF and had no problems with it

14/12/2018 at 10:05 in reply to: Laserstorm: Suggestions for consideration in proposed revision #105717cmnashParticipantIvan, Thanks for the quick reply
.
cmnashParticipantI’m a bit late on this as gmail decided that the email alert for the thread update was spam for some reason …
Great work Matt and I’m looking forward to some AARs!
.
cmnashParticipantDarryl, this is all your fault you know ;)) Your blog has been a real inspiration along with reading the Starks war series about fighting on the moon. Plus the GZG figures are great!
All reasons I have a (very slow burning) Moongrunt project as well!
.
cmnashParticipantThanks for posting all that Matt & for taking the time and effort to write it up!
Your dice grid idea for recording positions is brilliant!
.
12/12/2018 at 09:01 in reply to: Laserstorm: Suggestions for consideration in proposed revision #105563cmnashParticipantHi Ivan, Do you have any idea when this revision might arrive?
.
cmnashParticipantI’ve used Supreme Littleness several times and have always been very pleased with the products and service. The range of game markers ( http://www.supremelittleness.co.uk/sld-gaming-aids/markers-shapes15mm.htm ) and letter markers ( http://www.supremelittleness.co.uk/sld-gaming-aids/letter-markers.htm ) are very useful for making indicators for game statuses / conditions / etc. – I stick them to pennies to give an indicator with a decent size and heft
edited: in this post there’s a pic of some that I made: https://www.thewargameswebsite.com/forums/topic/5core-3rd-ed-markers/#post-85054
.
cmnashParticipantAs we’re listing mecha games, don’t forget Ganesha Games’ Samurai Robots Battle Royale
http://www.ganeshagames.net/product_info.php?products_id=228
I’ve not played it though, so can’t comment on its complexity, although the above page does say it’s based on Song of Blades, so it can’t be too complex …
edited for spelling mistook …
.
cmnashParticipantThank-you for the informative (the best kind!) review
.
cmnashParticipantPeter Pig have an ECW and Pirate range – there are a range of unusual figures in the pirate range
.
07/12/2018 at 09:18 in reply to: FOR SALE: 1/600 WWII, Vietnam, and Modern Aircraft Collection #105251cmnashParticipantModern sold, only Vietnam left. Thanks go to Mr. Nash. V/R, Jack
No – thank you Mr J Jack
.
cmnashParticipantThere’s most definitely a siege wargame in there somewhere! It would be perfect for skirmish gaming too
Well there goes butterfly Jim off on another project …
.
cmnashParticipantThanks Colin I’ve now wrapped up the wadi and the road sections, so that bit of the project is done, although I still need to make some ‘pie wedge’ bends for he wadi so that it’s not so linear and also make the road junctions, crossroads and a few small filler pieces to bridge any gaps. This is never ending…
I’d have some sympathy if it wasn’t entirely self-inflicted! But, that said, IMO, the results are definitely worth it!
Are you making the pie wedge bends yourself from another straight? or buying them?
…I’m now off to paint some tiddly planes for a bit of light relief.
Light relief? I don’t think I want to know what you’d consider serious partying then …
.
cmnashParticipantGreat progress on this Jim – well done that man!
.
cmnashParticipantThanks for sharing Craig – looking forward to these rules
.
cmnashParticipantIn case you’re not aware of them, GZG’s “2mm Germy’s Micro Minis” range might be useful for your project:
https://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/2mm-germy-s-micro-minis.html?page=all
.
cmnashParticipantJozi’s Tin Man blog has a bunch of AARs using Trench Hammer; there is also a WW1 resources page here:
https://sites.google.com/view/tinmanwargaming/the-great-war
edited to correct a spelling mistook
.
cmnashParticipantThey look really nice – such a shame that they’re 28s … oh well
.
cmnashParticipantThey look really good Jim. I’ve got a bunch of their thinner ones to use as roads/rivers with my 3mm stuff
.
cmnashParticipantIf you’re going to change your 10mm Alien bases, why not make them into jungle bases too? can do some Predator(s) style games then – after all you don’t need figures for the Predators do you? just a base will do, given their active camouflage …
edited: Or you could get another board and make that one a jungle board!
.
cmnashParticipant15mm dustgrave
Now that’s a brilliant idea – will have to find my Frostgrave rulebook and have a look … ah, I think I packed it
.
cmnashParticipantThey look really good Matt. The splash markers are great & I’m guessing that the small, shipless bases indicate where a turn has been made?
What rules did you use?
.
cmnashParticipantThe most egregious example that springs to my mind is the Americans’ use of bodycount as a measure of success in Vietnam, and the inevitable abuses that generated. Chris Bloody Big BATTLES! https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/BBB_wargames/info http://bloodybigbattles.blogspot.com/
I watched a series about the vietnam war and the quote that sticks in my mind, was a former CIA analyst (IIRC) who said of the bodycount measure:
“When you can’t measure what’s important, what you can measure becomes important”
The important thing he referred to was the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese people – the Americans couldn’t measure how successful they were at winning them, so fell back to bodycount as a measure of their success …
Not exactly sure what this tells us, or its relevance here, but I thought I’d share anyway
.
cmnashParticipant.
.
cmnashParticipantThose ships look pretty good Brian, I’m looking forward to being able to make out more of the detail when you’ve painted them!
You said in the comments “you should wash them with Simple Green” – what is Simple Green? I would guess a brand of detergent, but you then said “and then a dish-washing detergent to remove it”, so now I doubt it …
.
cmnashParticipantThanks Matt. I thought it looked familiar – I’ve got the same one myself
.
cmnashParticipantThey look great Matt – very nice indeed! What make is your battlemat?
