Thanks, I reckon I can get the stormtroopers to look a little better with a bit more practice and dark realms light infantry may pass as rebel commandos, got some jawa’s and a tauntaun to do too, no idea what im going to do with them though!

Northern MonkeyParticipantArrgh, dont mention the S word, ive just finished off my 1/1200th Napoleonic naval stuff and im sick of re-painting the you know whats

Northern MonkeyParticipantA quick update to this side project, I have now finished off al the crew for all three ships, pics here: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/

Northern MonkeyParticipantlove the commander popping out the hatch, is that a conversion?
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantAlso, if you are willing to pay £2.50p for a 28mm figure (as at least five of you are) would you be willing to pay £1.25p for a 15mm figure?
I would. I wonder if those who have less projects on the go as it were, would be willing to pay more, as overall they need less?
That’s true for me, I only use 28’s in skirmish style games(10-20 minis) these days, so don’t mind paying that little bit more, saying that Perry’s are about £1.15 each and Artisan £1.85, so it has to be a really good model to get me to pay over £2 but I would if I liked it

Northern MonkeyParticipanthow can you forget the name of the (blink an you’ll miss him) – Bossk!
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantCosmotiger – Brother Reeves was the veteran sgt in my marine army for years – great choice
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantWe have been playing a new game called Lords & Lands (I was part of the playtest) and whilst biased as its my mates game, it does do fantasy mass battles really well, large games played to a conclusion in a reasonable amount of time, innovative command and control so no player is waiting ages for their turn and with plenty of command options, army lists are free and will be kept updated where necessary, and there are no specific basing or scale requirements.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantAs you say cost is the main one for me, then space – will I need to set aside a small room to store the stuff I would need to game whatever it is, properly. Next would be painting requirements, taking on 100’s or 1000’s of new mini’s all requiring intricate paint jobs rules out a lot genre’s for me. Terrain is another factor although it could be considered under space/storage too, but anything requiring overly specific terrain is slightly off-putting, my intended Judge Dredd game fell apart for this reason.
So, if a new genre/game came along, reasonably priced, no requirement to own 100-1000’s of intricately painted mini’s that uses fairly generic terrain in the main, would potentially interest me.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantNice, and as with AB I immediately thought how cool it would look with 6mm minis
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantno, just Basilisk’s and Manticores in the way of Artillery, although Bombards are an available choice in the Epic Armageddon rules.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantI am quite strict with my new purchases these days which has led to me actually getting projects finished, compared to a few years back when my lead mountain was in surmountable, I find having an annual purge of stuff that is unlikely to ever get painted or used helps focus my painting/gaming. Before I started doing this I must have written off 10 or so projects that I had collected stuff for but couldn’t bring myself to actually paint, mainly due to my bad habit of wanting to have examples of all possible units for each army.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantFinally a decent site, I love me some irregular minis, but the site was archaic and the price codes always eluded me, they just need to get some more/new pics up now
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantMaking terrain/scenery is one of the more enjoyable aspects of the hobby to m, though I do tend to make pointless and unnecessary stuff that is usually impractical for gaming, see my latest “Dead Marshes” project for eg: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/ (you have to scroll down about half way for pics)
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantdemos games will be, the aforementioned Dredd game, infinity, football hooligans, WW1, Moderns, VBCW, a fantasy game and lots and lots of WW2
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantOther than a Judge Dredd game I’m not sure though I will find out tonight as its club night and the fiasco organisers are there
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantAll my armies look as though they have been in the field for weeks, I like them to look grimy rather than parade ground clean, saying that I don’t play napoleonics and if I did I would probably want them to look a little smarter, same applies to most of my buildings they all tend to look as though they could do with fresh lick of paint /whitewash, but this may be more to do with my lazy painting style than aesthetics
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantThanks chaps and youre right Paint Pig they definitely need something on the shields, still not thought of what though, it needs to be simple yet suitable for elves, any ideas?
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantI’ve played a lot of BKC2, and we mainly use infantry formations backed up with smaller numbers of armour, and I have never felt that the rules are not as effective with a heavy infantry element, some early war and small nations lists are predominantly infantry based
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantWow! I am not alone in my febrile switching from painting WW2 to ancients to Cold War to Mediaeval to WW2!
Definitely not alone, I find that the only way I can get things painted is if I change subject fairly regularly or I succumb to ennui.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantMine’s full of 6mm stuff as ever, mainly a load of Microworld wood elves, a 74 gun 3rd rate ship with crew and canons, and a few Steel Crown and Old Crow sci fi infantry/aliens, oh and a rather large castle/city walls from Leven.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantNeither, 4lb cannonettes should ensure we have a clear winner
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantNever done it or had the need to, my partner is fully supportive of my hobby and knows that I wouldn’t be so stupid to blow the food/bills money on toys
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantI want to win mainly to scupper Paul but really cos I too have never played napoleonics other than Black Powder and really want to have a reason to buy a load of Oddzial Osmy 3mm stuff
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantHa, your post wasn’t there when I started my reply DM, i’ll put you in touch with my brother in law you can console each other, and drink to your mangled rigging
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantNot me, but my brother in law, managed to knock half a dozen painted, based and fully rigged 1/1200th Langton Napoleonic ships off a shelf onto a hard floor, they have been sat on his painting desk in a very mangled state ever since!
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantWhat about these from leven miniatures:

or these from baccus:

My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantThanks for the info Alvin, I suspected they were a bought in range as the sculpting is far different from the usual H&R stuff (that’s not criticism of H&R I love their stuff), its a beautifully sculpted range and between you and Mr Baker you should be very proud of them, I will be adding some Anglo Saxons when time allows as I need some targets for my slaughtering and pillaging!
And I will update my blog with your info too
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantit was mainly seeing the crew that sold me on buying the ships, I always like to add crew to things where I can, and these are particularly nice and the lack of bases makes them look so much better when in place.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantTim, its the post below the Viking stuff, here’s a direct link: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/silly-scenics-2.html
and thanks Richard I’m looking forward to seeing more of your stuff

Northern MonkeyParticipantgreat looking game and excellent report, I play impetus WotR so right up my street, looks like the river created a natural oblique line which you took full advantage of.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantLovely looking job you’ve done there, I’d thoroughly enjoy playing on that board.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantI’ve never met anyone offended by dead/casualty figures, in fact most people I know would use them in every game if they could be arsed painting/making them. They add to the visual impact of the game and make for a more interesting looking battlefield, how can anyone who wargames be truly offended by these models when the main aim of most wargames is killing the opposition!
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantNope, never, I don’t put on games at shows or do demo’s so I really cant justify spending my limited gaming time making one off scenery no matter how cool the piece maybe, I waste* enough time making generic scenery for the multiple periods I already play. Conversely though I would help out if my limited skills were ever needed for a club/show project(highly un-likely as the club is full of excellent modellers)
* anything that doesn’t involve actual game play is in a sense, a waste of gaming time to me, even though I enjoy both painting and scenery making.
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantAs “they” even knowing that the vast majority are male, mainly because I know that the moment I refer to a company as “He” someone will point out that, that particular company is actually a “She” so it’s just easier and avoids offending, besides I know of a number of companies which are run by couples so “They” is more accurate
My attempt at a Blog: http://ablogofwar.blogspot.co.uk/
Northern MonkeyParticipantThanks AB, im planning on making a few more “settlements” and ive got my eye on a bunch of your stuff, plus I have just finished of the few vehicles I have in readiness for a game pics on me blog:
