Thorsten FrankParticipant
Oh, that is a bad topic.
I lack any self-control besides money….
Sometimes I think some kind of family would limit it. And my previous job did put also some constraints on this particular hobby but with that gone too it got very complex to put it mild. And there´s also this annoying computer which feeds me on a regular base (I´m completely fascinated by Shadow Empire for several months now). Without the monetary constraints I could have easily sunk several thousand euro in minis and rules this year alone. Gladly, sometimes sanity kicks in and says “how about painting the unpainted minis first and complete the terrain you´ve started three years ago”.

Thorsten FrankParticipantHm, don´t know if I will get into it. I´m more and more very bored by the SW universe with it´s more or lesse binary approach to many things. I loved the original X-Wing and especially Tie-Fighter.
@Rhoderic: if you on a moderately modern smartphone you may try the Trinus CBVR app and one of those “cheap” goggles. I use it for several applications including Elite Dangerous and it works well. Not one of those high-end pieces for sure.
Still my brain says no to the VR stuff – it can´t really be convinced to be fooled."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantLuckily I live in the town with the third-oldest, still in use, German pub. And two other, medieval ones, in the neighbouring one.
The one here is called Zum Hirsch (At The Deer), the other two are called Schwarzer Adler (Black Eagle) and Die Drei Hasen (The Three Rabbits). Last one uses a sign that looks like excactly like the one on the flag of the Isle of Man.If!) I find my Conan bible in my chaos(!) I may be able to give some names Howard (and other writers used) in a later post. Hopefully.
However there´ s something that concerns me. I remember what happened when Mike did a pub the last time….
"In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantI expect it’s going to be the desert noblewoman’s palace,
Mike, if Rhoderic is right on this one you should think about the “for private use only”. You know that a palace or villa for Yassi is on my wishlist.

Off-topic: BTW, I don´t know what has exactly changed, because I didn´t change anything yet, but I don´t had to login since my post in that thread. Something seems to work.

Thorsten FrankParticipantFor me too.

Thorsten FrankParticipantOutlands. I know nobody who plays them. Or even knows them. And I´ ve got a love/hate relationship to the rules but I frequently return to them.

Thorsten FrankParticipantAs always I can´ t wait to get the new issue. That´ s a nice collection of articles again.
Anyway, I nearly buyed two weeks ago a NEW fan that looked exactly like the one converted in the last issue. I think that would be a new level of madness in my hobby projects converting perfectly working stuff…..

Thorsten FrankParticipantIn my own stuff I go more to an Indian Ocean style but heavily mixed up. Real world southern India (especially Kerala), Madagascar and Zanzibar with it´s myriads of different people, respective architecture and ways of living. Also stuff from the old Khmer Empire – Angor style ruins and statues.
But again mixed in way it´s not immediately obvious and heavily “barbarized/hyborianized”.
So, maybe a few different styles of small boats and huts, something like the Yasovarman temple and the Marayur dolmen (which could serve nearly everywhere in an fantasy setting).PS: don´t forget the deserts – there´s still much to explore there (like a villa/palace for Yasmina)

Thorsten FrankParticipantUh, I´ ve got the same problem on an irregular base. Sometimes I keep logged in for a week or so and another time I´ ll got logged out after hours. It happens with Firefox and BigA´´ s FireOS.
I will check my cookies setting and report back, Mike."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda

Thorsten FrankParticipantI´ve got to repeat me – the amount of detail on all those minis is astonishing! Can´t wait to get my hands on them.

Thorsten FrankParticipantThe same happens with British facing colours though, even without inventing new colours. What exactly is Grass Green – look at grass and you’ll see it is a riot of different colours so which one do you choose ?
Uh, that brings up memories from a certain motorcycle company: Strontium Green, Nuclear Red….
I think it was Strontium Yellow 😉
Uh, yes, correct! I´ve mismatched that a bit.

Thorsten FrankParticipantYou are really funny, guys – I´m currently thinking about replacing all my 28mm and 6mm stuff with 15mm.
So far has it come…."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipant“High tech and low life”, as they say. The more tropes, the better. I want it to be a genre romp the same way I want swords-and-sorcery, gothic horror or spaghetti westerns to be genre romps. To communicate my idea of “what’s cyberpunk” in this context, I would point to the trailers for Cyberpunk 2077, and the artwork in Reality’s Edge and Cyberpunk Red (much of which can be viewed with a Google image search, as the publishers have been using their respective artwork for promotional purposes). All of these have in common that they harvest ideas from other, more original sources of the genre (a bit of GITS, a bit of Blade Runner, a bit of William Gibson, etc.) and condense them all in a very trope-affirming way. Which to me is a good thing. This! The high-tech low-life aspect is the most defining aspect of the genre. The protagonists aren´t the shining heroes saving the world – they are people on the edge of society striving for survival in an increasingly inhuman world. Some people here, in a way, are living this right now. Again, in a way. This is the “punk” aspect of it.
Bruce Sterling´s Islands in the Net is an example of a world very close to our current one (it is set in the year 2023) and made a lot of correct predictions of our current world.
The borders to other science-fiction genres are blurry. One could say that the Traveller RPG fits in the same model. Or to take another and closer example the GURPS Transhuman Space series which is very close to the Cyberpunk genre with most of the technology but not as gritty and dark (well, mostly). The closest TV-Show to ThS is surely The Expanse.@Mike: BTW, I would love to see a similar flood of source material for Burning Sands/sword and sorcery….
Rhoderic, I don´t know if you´ve checked out the various short films that are on YT – some are really good.
And speaking of music, the YT musician Antti Martikainen made a whole series of dedicated Cyberpunk music a few years ago. He seems to be an sci-fi/fantasy/RPG fan too if you take a look on his works."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantUh, I just watched a let´s play of Cloudpunk and this looks really interesting especially from it´s design. Thx for this tip.

Thorsten FrankParticipantFrom the optics and style certainly computer games. Jason mentioned Satellite Reign which was a really good one. There exists a special edition with an introductionary novel as PDF. Another nice example is RUINER. But beware it´s an action game and for guys like me, nearing the half century, it is sometimes a bit to … demanding. But the scenery is simply great. Also nice is DEX, a platformer/RPG-mix.
A few other examples, which I haven´t played (yet) are Observer, NeoCab and Gemini Rue.
What I´ve played is the classic Blade Runner game by Westwood from the mid-90s and it was really good. As far as I know some of the classic publishers has brought it again either or both to Steam and/or GOG. And I think both movies are very high on the list.
Then there are the Deus Ex games. The first one and DX: Human Revolution are really excellent.Luckily for all the games are YT videos online either playthroughs or the respective intros which give often enough inspiration.
I noticed the lack of photos in Reality´s Edge too. I haven´t played it yet and can´t say much if it fits or not. Either way there are some interesting rule mechanics.
I wonder why some of the authors not follow Robey Jenkins example in Horizon Wars and give some examples of suitable manufacturers for minis."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantThat´s quite interesting. Let´s see what he will come up with.

Thorsten FrankParticipantMe too!
After learning that the stuff is called Sagrotan here. And I used tons of it over the years on my 6mm stuff.
Reatively cheap and easy to get.
But I´ ve got one question – how do you dispose this stuff in your respective countries? Here it´ s more or less a pain in the arse because it cost a lot of money to bring it to the community disposal. In recent years I cheated a it and disposed them at filling stations in used motor oil bottles.
And toilet or even in the backyard is even much more expensive on the long run.
@Jeffers: Nitro stuff? I´ m with Mike here – do you use oil-based paints?"In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantTbh, I wasn´ t very keen on ape stuff.
However, after seeing them here I´ ve got to reconsider.
Man, my shopping list just got longer….."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantUh, I´ ve had completely forgotten those rules do exist. Will e interersting to follow.

Thorsten FrankParticipantJozisTinMen, thanks for this link – this looks pretty interesting.
"In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantOh yes! I had a local printing service that not only printed them on heavy cardoard but did cut them out for a few bucks more. Sadly, it was bought by a larger company and closed down a few months later.
Had a great relationship with them. I did let them print a lot of rules too. Prices were affordable for all that (in the range from 50% cheaper to the same prices as a regular print products).
If you´ ve got a company nearby it´ s a better option than an own printer on the long run."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantReasonably late 1942 in the main TO´s. Both, the PzB38 and the PzB39 were phased out officially mid 1944. But the last real uses were during the close-quarter fightings in Stalingrad and even there it seems they were unpopular with the troops.
As far as I know some were converted to shoot rifle grenades. Converted or not even then they were mostly used defensively and with the campaign in Russia they were very fast incapable for any kind of warfare (moility and armour).
However, it may be possible that some units, which learned to use them in a modern (ATM) sense, used them until the end of the war. Veteran units develop very fast their own SOPs – if they had a chance to survive long enough."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantWt…? What nation/tribe do those people belong to??? I’ ve seen a lot of stuff over the years but those are completely unknkwn for me.

Thorsten FrankParticipant50 pounds? Only? I opened my third 1okg pack birds sand on tuesday. And I started in oct ´´ 19 using this stuff…..
Despite being a true mess in many ways I can´ t get much cheaper."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipant@Harry Faversham: Thank you. Of course, in all the chaos a furball has naturally it is difficult to determine who´s who and who got hit.
However, I´m always interested to get the whole picture of a given action."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantIs it known who flew the Spitfire shot down by Leppla?

Thorsten FrankParticipantGerman brother is quite a bit surprised that he never heard this story before and had to reread a book about him. In this book it is told that four Spitfire did attack him, wounded him and he did spin out of control due to the wounds. The effective hit is credited to J.T. Webster in this book and not Malan. Must have over read the part who did get the kill because I thought it was Malan too.
Checked it back on the Wikipedia and found this:”Mölders flew his first combat sortie with JG 51 on 28 July, attacking a No. 41 Squadron RAF Supermarine Spitfire flown by Flying Officer Tony Lovell.[45][46] On this mission, according to legend, Mölders was hit in a dogfight over Dover by the South African ace Sailor Malan, sustaining three splinter wounds in the lower leg, one in the knee and one in the left foot. Oberleutnant Richard Leppla shot down the pursuing Spitfire, and Mölders was able to make an emergency landing at Wissant, France.[47][48] Recent research suggests Mölders was actually wounded in combat by Flight Lieutenant J.T (John Terence) “Terry” Webster DFC in a Spitfire of No. 41 Squadron RAF. Webster was killed in action on 5 September 1940.”The book is Jagdflieger Oberst Werner Mölders – Bilder und Dokumente [Fighter Pilot Colonel Werner Mölders – Images and Documents] (in German) (4 ed.). Stuttgart, Germany: Motorbuch Verlag. ISBN 978-3-87943-869-3. That´s the German standard book on Mölders.

Thorsten FrankParticipantI would never judge anyone for thingshe does for himself. Especially if it´ s positive for the family.
Ok, I´ ve got to confess something too.
I always hated GW stuff.
Having said that: I´ ve spent 1.99 for the WH40k Conquest Issue one.
I simply couldn´ t resist (5 Incessor SM and 3 Citadel colours – I couldn´ t say no…..)"In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipantThis game has irritated me, as a very new/recent 2000AD fan, from the start. I´m not a great fan of multiverse games and it did look strange for me since the announcement. Well, yes, there were crossovers in the comics too but that doesn´t mean I´ve got to like them.
However, the miniatures included may me think twice."In strange grammar this one writes" - Master Yoda
Thorsten FrankParticipant@Darkest Star Games: I know and you are spot on. I initially wanted mention it but decided against. I always write too much.

Thorsten FrankParticipantI agree with Thaddeus on Downbelow Station, however, while it´s an excellent science-fiction novel it´s not MSF per se. But definetely a worth (IMHO one of the best) read. In fact all of her Alliance-Union works are worth a read. And btw, The Faded Suns trilogy is worth a read too in MSF regards.
